Substructure Laboratory (Soil Mechanics Lab.)

The experiments dealing with the physical and mechanical properties of the disturbed, undisturbed and remolded soil specimens and some of the in-situ tests are performed by the Substructure Laboratory.

  Laboratory Experiments:

1- Water content of soils using oven and Speedy Moisture apparatus

  2- Grading (Sieve analysis)

  3- Hydrometry

4- Liquid and Plastic limits (Atterberg’s limits)

  5- Sand equivalent

6- Compaction characteristics of soils (Standard effort)

7- Compaction characteristics of soils (Modified effort)

8- In-place density using sand bottles

9- Relative density of cohesionless soils

  10- California bearing ratio (CBR)

  11- Unconfined uniaxial strength

  12- Direct shear strength

  13- Consolidation

  14- Triaxial test

  15- Permeability (Constant head)

  In-situ Tests:

The in-situ tests that can be performed by the lab are as follows:

  1- Plate Loading Test

  2- In-situ CBR

3- Stamdard Penetration Test (SPT) for clayey and granular soils
