Abstract

AA3004 alloy is widely used in can making. The major concern in the production of canbodies is earing, which develop by high planar anisotropy of rolled sheet. Balance ofrecrystallisation and rolling textures together with a uniform and fine grain microstructure canminimize the earing. The effects of finish rolling temperature (FRT) on planar anisotropy,microstructure, texture development and mechanical properties of sheet have been analyzedIncreasing the FRT resulted in promotion of cube and G texture in hot rolled sheet. Lower |ΔR| ofthe final sheet with higher FRY, i.e. the lower planar anisotropy, is accompained with a balance ofrolling and recrystallisation orientations.

Abstract

Abstract: Nickel was electrodeposited onto copper substrates with high {111} and {400} peak intensities. The grain size of coatings deposited onto the copper substrate with a higher {111} peak intensity was finer. Spheroidized pyramid morphology was obtained at low current densities on both copper substrates. By increasing the deposition current density, grain size of the coating was increased for both substrates and eventually a mixed morphology of pyramids and blocks was appeared without further increase in grain size. This decreased the anodic exchange current density probably due to the decrease of surface roughness and led to a lower corrosion rate.

Abstract

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a promising technique to join aluminum alloys without having problems encountered during fusion welding processes. In the present work, the evolution of microstructure and texture in friction stir welded thin AA2024 aluminum alloy are examined by electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) technique. The sheets with 0.8 mm thickness were successfully welded by friction stir welding at the tool rotational speeds of 500, 750, and 1000 rpm with a constant traverse speed of 160 mm/min. EBSD revealed that stir zones exhibited equiaxed recrystallized grains and the grain size increased with increasing the tool rotation rate. The fraction of high angle grain boundaries and mean misorientation angle of the boundaries in the FSW joints at 500 rpm were 63.6% and 24.96°, respectively, which were higher than those of the sample welded at 1000 rpm (53.6% and 17.37°). Crystallographic texture results indicated that the Cube {001}<100> and S {123}<634> textures in base metal gradually transformed in to Copper {112}<111> shear texture. It was found that with increasing the tool rotation rate, the intensity of Cube {001}<100>, Y {111}<112>, S {123}<634>, and Dillamore {4 4 11}<11 11 8> texture orientations increased and the intensity of Brass {011}<211> texture orientation decreased.

Abstract

In the present work, accumulative roll bonding (ARB) was used as an effective method for processed of nano/ultrafine grained AA6063 alloy. Microstructural characteristics indicate considerable grain refinement leading to an average grain size of less than 200 nm after 7 ARB cycles. Texture analysis showed that 1-cycle ARB formed a strong texture near Copper component ({112}<111>). However, texture transition appeared by increasing the number of ARB cycles and after 7-cycle of ARB, the texture was mainly developed close to Rotated Cube component ({100}<110>). The results originated from mechanical properties indicated a substantial increment in strength and microhardness besides a meaningful drop of ductility after 7 ARB cycles.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to establish the correlation between the impact strength and texture, fractal dimensions of fractures , fractal dimensions  obtained from load-time diagrams  reflecting the applied load (P) dependence on time (τ) during the Charpy impact test of 20K steel at various temperatures as well as the comparison of abovementioned fractal dimensions. The tests were carried out on a vertical impact testing machine with a multi-channel system for high-speed registration of forces and strains, as well as a heating and cooling system for samples in a wide temperature range. The load vs. time (load dependence on time) diagrams were obtained at an impact velocity of  = 4.4 m/s at temperatures of -50, +20, + 50°С. The Charpy standard samples of 20K steel (analogue to DIN17175, class St45.8) were cut in various directions out of a 12 mm thick the destroyed tank shell of a distillation column for oil refining. It was established that the behavior of both abovementioned fractal dimensions depending on the cutting direction and test temperature coincides qualitatively. The trend of decreasing in fractal dimension with a more viscous nature of fracture was found. The effect of texture is discussed.

Abstract

In this research, the effect of initial microstructure and solution treatment on rollability and crystallographic texture of a Cu-Mn-Ni-Sn alloy has been investigated. The initial tests indicated that the rolling of the alloy at different temperature conditions is not possible due to formation of second phases. Herein to eliminate the segregated phases, according to DTA analysis, proper temperature for solution treatment was selected as 750°C applied at different periods of time. The obtained results showed that after 15-hour solution treatment, the complete elimination of Sn, Mn, Ni, and Fe-rich phases can be achieved. Also, the peaks of XRD shifted to the higher angles indicating that the alloying elements are dissolved. Meanwhile, the intensity of the texture reduced and the dominant texture changed from Goss and Brass-texture to Copper-texture. Accordingly, the amount of maximum total reduction at the rolling process increased from 16.37 to 109.46 after solution treatment.
